Smiles that make the world go ’round.

The past couple of weeks I been blessed with a little painting gig. It’s the holiday season you know? Store fronts must take this opportunity to wear a little decor in the form of paint!

My brush has met window and my nose just might be this bitter red color forever more. That is alright. I suppose my nose can be what ever temperature it wants because my soul is warm from the lives I have met in the process.  A lot can happen when you stand and paint in one spot for three hours at a time. A lot of people can become your friend, only to go on their way a short time after. Those short times have blessed me so.

The girls who were walking over with their quarters to get their Tootsie Pops, they thought I was doing the most b-eau-tiful painting. Their jaws dropped when I offered to let them help. What fun we had.

Store clerks who were curious by the painting process and thankful for the entertainment.

The gal who told me how much she loved her job and then offered me a bag of popcorn. I couldn’t help but smile at her soft, glittery eyeshadow paired with her pretty yellow apron and mud lined work boots.

The Jehovah Witness who sat with me and told me of his beliefs.

The man dependant on the Liquor Store opening at 10 AM. The other fella who bought me a scratch ticket along with his brown-papered bottle to slip in his backpack.

Parents constantly mentoring and teaching their children how to behave.

Two grand-folks watching and chatting the afternoon away over a cup of joe. They seemed very content with having nowhere else to be.

Farm hands who work hard to provide. Thank you sir; have a nice day ma’am.

The five generation family running a small town quick stop. Boy, those ladies were kind hearted.

The old gentleman asking where my coveralls were.

A man who questioned me about how he could help his wife get started with a job like this. I could tell he really loved her.

Everyday people who are living their lives day by day. I don’t know much about them, but they are faces that have brought a smile to mine.

These people have been a joy to interact with. I am happy to be a glimpse in their lives as well. I suppose I never know the impact I will truly make. That is up for God to decide. I may have just sparked a life long dream for the little towhead who looked up at her mama and said, “I want to do that when I grow up.”

I sure hope she does.
